Thanks to the Kitman for the killer photos below!

Hammer the last nail in the coffin for the bike vs. partner debate. One hundred and ten people showed up on Valentine's Day to ride bikes - more than any other RG! I'll leave you to ponder the state of our relationships and get on with the ride report...

Time for something totally different. Well, not that different, as most ride the Red Course more than any other track. But not at race pace. Yeah, the first third is fun and flowy, but after the big berm you're looking at a 30 second sprint over flat ground on legs that are already starting to feel it. And the final third which requires a bit of attention as you're wheezing and seeing red. How can a 1:30 second course utterly destroy so many?

The nature of the course meant that everything you knew about who's fast and not so fast was turned on it's head. Unless you studied last year's results, which a few actually had. Adam H was fastest last year. Could he hold his title? My money was on the hell-for-leather pedallers, like Andy H for example.

So when Scott Barley came down with a 1:17 and took three seconds out of Andy H who was leading at the time, I was a bit shocked! Yeah, Scott's fast, but flippin eck. Others who had legs included Adam B, Smithy, Ryan E, Jason P, and Mick W, who pegged an impressive tie for 7th, up from the middle of the pack where he usually hangs. Mick is twice the age of some of you!

Elliot M put in a 1:18, but didn't seem much out of breath, he may have more in him. Eyes were on Adam H, and he didn' disappoint, setting a fast time that no one would even sniff at all day long. 1:14. Want to be that fast? Adam's in the gym 5 days a week boys (and girls). I guess Adam is so smooth I just never noticed him pedalling before... Elliot and Andy would get into the 1:17s but would go home pretty well spanked.

Adam bringing it home.

The Under 16s class has exploded with talent, and the poor local boys are trying to figure out how to fend off all the new talent. The fastest of the lot Nick G, Ali M, and the fastest of the day Mitch J with a 1:21. Credit to Tom A who went fastest on a hardtail, and Rich P, the fastest of the over 16s who showed immense style and speed on his jump bike.

Billy N's speed and skill on the bike have definitely been improving! Photo by Joe Ellement.

And finally, I have some ladies to write about! Four in fact, which is fantastic. It takes some guts to get out there in the middle of all that testosterone and do your thing. Hats off Maria, Joan, Becky, and Nadia (who went fastest by a fair way).

I'd just like to apologize for what I'm about to say next, because many of you are trying to forget it. The skin suit debacle. Few have seen such a grotesque spectacle. I heard one person instantaneously vomitted! But for the doubters, Alex T went 3 seconds quicker without his clothes on. Lesson over!
