The designated area for downhill riding in
Cannock Chase is called Stile Cop. Riders have been building
and riding trails here for over 10 years, but it's only been in the past few years that ChaseTrails
have stepped in to legitimize the trails and get in good
standing with the Forestry Commission. It's by no means a major destination and
it's not worth a lengthy drive or a weekend trip. But it is a fun
stomping ground for local midlands area riders and serves as decent
training for racers when they can't get to Hopton or
Bringewood. |

Trail Descriptions
The Red Course:
Arguably the easiest trail on
Stile Cop. It's a fast and flowing intermediate trail with tiered
drops and jumps. The longest trail down the hill, it also has the
shallowest grade. This was the first official trail and is still
considered good fun by many riders, but not particularly challenging
for expert riders. Regardless, beginners should still walk this
trail first! There are 4 unsigned offshoots from the Red Course,
most leading to black runs.
The Black Course: Created with rider
input as a training run for racers. The trail is narrower and
requires more technical skill. A few rock gardens have been added.
Not many corners, but what is there is challenging. The Black Course
currently finishes with the infamous step down drop, a 4 to 6 foot
drop into a right hand berm. This trail is a moderate step up from
the Red Course, and while considered "black", it is still an
intermediate level trail for those of us who've been around the
block.
